We tested for you: In the footsteps of migratory birds with the LPO

What could be more immersive than testing as many activities and entertainment as possible offered by our partners, with the aim of always providing you with better advice? In this sunny month of November, we chose the Quinconces site to follow the visit “In the footsteps of migratory birds” with the LPO.

An appointment is therefore made with Lucie, nature guide of the LPO, at the David Allègre pond, located at the entrance to this natural space. There are 4 of us taking part in this walk: an ornithology enthusiast, two LPO companions on civic service and your faithful editor.

Between two explanations on the objectives and missions of the LPO, we try to identify the different species that we could find around the beach. Our morning quickly becomes a game of “Where’s Waldo?”.

After spending a long time with the birds on the beach, we headed towards the ponds to admire new species.

From swans to herons, we arrive at the end of the journey. Lucie takes the opportunity to give us a brief summary of the different birds encountered during the visit. In total, around twenty species crossed our path during these 2 hours of walking.

Thanks to the notes taken by the LPO team during the visit, the species observed were recorded on the application naturalist, developed by Faune Aquitaine. This will allow other users to know what types of birds they can discover in the selected area. With this application it is also possible, by selecting a species you want to see, to find out where it is currently nesting.

It's difficult to summarize this walk of more than two hours in a few words. Lucie is passionate and exciting! We can only recommend that you take a visit with her, following in the footsteps of birds, to the sublime site of Quinconces. This visit can be done alone, with friends or family.

To participate, we recommend that you equip yourself with good shoes, suitable for physical activity (sneakers or walking shoes for example).
